Rainbow Apartments owned and managed apartments for individuals with physical disabilities are located throughout the Chicago metro area.

What Makes Rainbow Apartments Special? Rainbow’s apartments have been designed specifically for low income individuals with - physical disabilities that are able to live independently with the assistance of privately-contracted, personal care. These apartments are special in the following ways:
Rainbow Apartments are Affordable – All of the apartments developed by Over the Rainbow Association come with rental subsidies. These subsidies are the only way that a person who is physically disabled with no income, other than social security or disability benefits, can afford to rent his or her own apartment.
Rainbow Apartments are More than Accessible – Rainbow apartments offer features designed to accommodate the severely disabled resident:
- Wheel-in shower areas
- Cabinets that move up and down on tracks
- Optional lifts in bedrooms and baths for residents who need assistance in getting in or out of bed or on and off the toilet
- Refrigerators and stoves at wheelchair height
Rainbow Apartments are Designed so that Residents Can Share the Expense of Personal Care Attendants – Not only do our residents have less income, but they need more services. They need access to personal care attendants to help them dress and undress, prepare meals, and maintain an apartment. These services are more efficiently delivered when several residents living nearby can share the services of a single personal care attendant.
